I Believe It Is Magic
California
03 CHAPTER
LAKE
TAHOE
Freshwater Lake Tahoe is located in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in the Western part of North America, at an altitude of 1897 meters above sea level. This is a resort area for Americans who are tired of the frantic rhythms of large California cities.
Some philosophy on the Lake
At Lake Tahoe, I felt as if I was observing happiness from a distance. This happiness seemed to be mine, and I was present among the decorations, but I thought that I was only a tiny part of these decorations, while the main action was happening all around me. I saw how people were entirely relaxed. They were sitting peacefully in their folding chairs on the beach, watching the gradual change in the sky before the sunset. Others were slowly walking along the lake, once in a while carefully dipping their feet in the water. Not far from the lake, in the outdoor recreation area, people were relaxing near their summer cottages, with gorgeous views of the beach. Some people were cooking meat on the grill while sipping a beer. No one was in a hurry. Everyone followed their rhythm and apparently, understood that in the days to come, there would be no need to hurry anywhere. All they needed to do is swim, sunbathe, relax, eat delicious food, and enjoy gorgeous sunrises and sunsets.
To achieve a goal, you have to properly formulate it. To articulate it clearly, it is necessary to at least know what you want. And then, most importantly, it is crucial to precisely visualize what the picture would look like when the goal has been achieved. While wandering around the picturesque Lake Tahoe, I was imagining how I would sit in an outdoor, cozy restaurant in the evening, overlooking the lake. I could see how I would eat some delicious food while watching the sunset. Well, dreams can remain dreams, unless you take the initial step to execute them! Near the lake itself, there was not a single restaurant, not even a fast-food chain. We obliviously dragged ourselves near the lake, gradually moving away towards the town. At some point, looking at cones the size of my hand, we ended up in a completely separate park zone. We wandered among the pine trees for a very long time. Until the path led us somewhere deep into the park, where it coiled through a small forest and led further along a picturesque meadow. My nose couldn’t be mistaken when I sensed the smell of the fried garlic. Following the scent, we began to wade through the field, until we saw a massive mansion with an enormous terrace hosting an eating area, overlooking the lake. The sky was gradually preparing for sunset. The idiot’s dream came true, I thought to myself. A fabulous sunset and the tinkling wine glasses filled with booze – what a great way to end the evening!
While sitting in a cozy restaurant, and looking at the sunset on Lake Tahoe, California, a sudden thought had struck me. Did I think my journey to Nepal would change my life so drastically, and I will become addicted to travel? (Read my story about a trip to Nepal here). I have the travel bug now, and it forces me to plan the trekking routes, and study the information about new countries I visit. I repeat everywhere I go that more than anything in the world I love to travel. And quite often, I have an urge to fly to foreign places, in search of new sensations and discoveries. Travel inspired me to write about my experiences and share them with all of you. I did not know all of this when I decided to fly to Nepal. But I felt that a radical change was coming, and it was time to expand my boundaries and the boundaries in general!
